A while back there was an instance where Sublimation was brought up. Namely wearing a refresh cloak versus the AF1 Headgear.

Around then I decided to do some testing; which would be more reasonable? Cloak or Mortarboard. I had attained an Ixion Cloak and traveled to Tavnazia and Rabao, testing Sublimation over a course of time.

I’m very bad with math and testing things, so instead of trying to find equations for this I manually counted Sublimation and clocked from beginning to :Complete.

Today I visted the scholar thread on BG and discovered another such discussion. It really is anyone’s own preferance. I decided it’d be a good time to share my testing.

Sublimation: Nothing vs Mortarboard vs Ixion Cloak.

Race Mithra. Job Scholar75 / Blue Mage 1. I have 8/8 MP merits (+80).

Wearing nothing:

HP: 908/908 MP: 0/589

Time from start to :Complete: 5:26

HP at :Complete: 682/908 (-226)

MP at :Complete: 228/580

Wearing Scholar’s Mortarboard [MP+14 INT+4 Enhances Sublimation Effect]

HP: 908/908 MP: 0/604

Time from start to :Complete: 3:50

HP at :Complete: 682/908 (-226)

MP at :Complete: 228/604

Wearing Ixion’s Cloak [Int+13 Mnd+13 Chr+13 Magic Accuracy+5 Adds Regen and Refresh Effect]

HP: 908/908 MP: 0/589

Time from start to :Complete: 5:40

HP at :Complete: 796/908 (-106)

MP at :Complete: 228 from sublimation +121 refresh effect = 349/589

That was from sit ins of complete sublimations. Either way, if you have stoneskin up you will be safe from reducing HP from the ticks. And also, a scholar shouldn’t be just using Mortarboard or Ixion Cloak for everything they do. So there will be times when you experience 2/tick. Although I don’t recommend idling in full Yigit or anything that isn’t a Mortarboard or cloak with refresh, Vermilion is just as good.

The best instances for Mortarboard vs Cloak would be lowman/endgame versus soloing. Mortarboard will give you faster mp for your time, and you usually have the leniency to replace stoneskin or cure lost hp. When soloing you don’t really have the time to abuse such comfort. A good refresh+regen build set will give you both ticks of hp and mp. Sanction and Sigil will let you have +2 to mp or hp+mp, respectively.

Let’s look at my idle set.

Gear of interest[Reason of interest]:

Terra’s Staff [Physical damage taken -20%]

Orochi Nodowa [Adds Regen Effect]

Novia Earring [Evasion+7]

Ixion Cloak [Adds Regen and Refresh Effect]

Garden Bangles [Daytime: Adds Regen Effect]

Balrahn’s Ring [Assault: Adds Refresh Effect] Not the most reliable, obviously.

Cheviot Cape [Physical damage taken -5%]

Herald’s Gaiters[Evasion+8 Movement speed +12%]

Evasion and Physical damage -:A miss is better than a hit. And a smaller hit, even by 2 hp is better than a critical or larger hit.

Another Regen piece is Root Sabots, however the Regen is only in effect when bound. This isn’t practical for soloing much with a kite strategy, but if you see yourself standing still in a battle, it may be worth it.

I idle and keep this on for sublimation. When resting I wear Mortarboard with stoneskin up. I’m working on wearing the cloak between the ticks from hMP, this way I can alternate having more hmp from Mahatma Houppelande and the quick-fix tick from Ixion Cloak.
